Taylorsville Storm Drain Utility
Businesses and residents will begin receiving invoices for the Storm Drain Utility adopted by Ordinance 07-19 on May 16, 2007. The utility was established to address the city’s aging storm drain system which in some locations is 50 years old and subject to failure and flooding. The fee is based on a monthly rate of $4.00 ERU (equivalent residential unit) and will be invoiced each quarter.
The City would be unable to financially repair and maintain the current system with current revenues. Additionally, new EPA standards concerning the health and safety of residents have made maintenance of the system more costly. The establishment of a storm water utility in many cities has dedicated funds specifically for storm drain and flood prevention.
Part of the ordinance that establishes the utility provides that property owners who are aggrieved by the service charge may appeal to the city administrator in writing within 30 days of receipt of the bill for relief.
The first billing was sent on September 10, 2007 and included, in error, a due date of less than one week. Please note that all invoices have a 30 day due date. No payment received within 30 days of the billing date will be deemed late.
